Abu Dhabi: Residents have been cautioned by the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City against slaughtering animals outside designated facilities.

The practice compromises public hygiene, health and safety, and unlike the slaughterhouses, there are no licensed veterinarians to ensure that animals are free from diseases and fit for consumption, the municipality announced in a statement on Wednesday.

Instead, the municipality encouraged residents to make use of the advanced services at the four slaughterhouses in the capital. To prepare for the increase in demand for meat during the Eid festivities, 340 licensed butchers will serve the four facilities, which will operate between 6am and 8pm until the end of Eid.

The statement also added that municipal inspectors will conduct regular checks to ensure that animals are not slaughtered outside designated facilities.
