Dubai: If you are a tweep based in the UAE, you must have seen #PeopleWhoMadeMyYearGood on top of the Twitter trends list this week. As 2013 comes to an end, Twitter is filled with tweeps thanking people who made the year memorable for them.

We asked readers on our Facebook page and Twitter channels to share their stories about people who made 2013 a good year for them. Readers were asked to reply with #GNWhoMade2013Good4me.

While most of them thanked family members and friends who brightened up the year, many made strong relationships with those who stood by them during the lows.

Facebook reader, Rida Rashid, had some bad news this year in terms of her health — on a regular visit to the doctor she was diagnosed with a health problem that required an operation.

“I got so depressed and frustrated that I would cry at work and be really mean. [My husband] never said a word; instead tried to keep me calm and would often try to involve me in things so my mind gets diverted.”

His unconditional support helped her stay healthy and get better.

“I would have not remained sane if it was not for him. On December 21, we completed one year of our marriage and believe me this one year has been so wonderful in every way.”

A similar experience was shared on Facebook by Abhijeet Bose, who suffered the loss of his mother this year. But later in the year, he was blessed with a baby girl Shyla, who — along with his wife Isha — made the year good for him.

“If we have our parents’s blessings on us, no one can do anything wrong in your life,” he wrote.

On Twitter, a reader @onlykaryn shared a story about her colleague who made 2013 memorable. She tweeted: “#GNWhoMade2013Good4me - my colleague who helped me make my dream of owning a car come true.”

Many readers were also lucky in love this year, with Twitter user Jean Margaret Carlos thanking @iamGemLandas, “coz he vowed to be wıth me for the rest of our lıves before 2013 ends.” Facebook reader Shaik Sulaiman said his engagement made 2013 good for him.

There were a few for whom sporting icons made the year special.

While for Facebook user, Shakil Shaik, Sachin Tendulkar made 2013 a memorable year, Jobe Ayoub thanked the players of football club Raja Casablanca. Talking about their good performance in the recently concluded Club World Cup in Morocco, Ayoub said that they they became the first Arab football club to enter the final and played against the champions of Europe — Bayern Munich. “Raja lost 2-0 but still [brought] joy to the hearts of millions, including me.”
