Dubai: Dubai Municipality issued 7,178 notices against violations related to existing and under-construction buildings during the first half of the year, it said on Sunday.
Khalid Saleh, director of the municipality’s buildings department, said inspections revealed there had been many unauthorised works carried out in existing buildings. Violations were also related to licensing and paperwork issues.
Jaber Al Ali, head of the building inspections section, added that a qualified technical staff of engineers and specialists are also continuously on guard against “unplanned or random” construction. The department produced 19,374 digital technical reports covering a wide range of issues and violations during the same period.
He said engineers from the building inspections section carried out 27,978 field visits to ascertain the number of buildings and constructions in violation of the laws. During the visits they found 9,317 “irregularities”, most of which were “internal adjustments” carried out without obtaining the necessary permits.
The municipality received 962 communications regarding buildings during the first half of the year, virtually all of which were resolved in time. He added that the municipality has morning and evening shifts dedicated to handling reports or complaints related to buildings as the issue is a priority for the civic body.
Al Ali also praised landlords and various Dubai government departments in cooperation with the municipality in its efforts to ensure a safe environment for all.
