Abu Dhabi: In close cooperation with the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA) has organised its New Ambassador Programme, aimed at equipping and increasing the skill level of newly appointed UAE ambassadors who will serve the country’s foreign diplomatic embassies.

The topics that will be covered by the programme include political analysis, diplomatic correspondence, strategic thinking, and scenario planning. Several seasoned diplomats and leaders will also be involved in the programme, offering their expertise and experience to help guide the new ambassadors.

Mariam Al Mahmoud, Director of Executive Education and Spokesperson at EDA, said it was vital for the UAE to have the best possible ambassadors representing the interests of their country, especially in a political environment that is consistently challenging.

“Emirati diplomatic missions abroad play a significant role in communicating the unique characteristics of the UAE to the international community. It is therefore imperative that the country’s ambassadors are equipped with the latest skills and expertise to deal with the ever changing political situations in the region and the world,” she said.

“As a true centre of excellence for diplomatic capacity development, research and thought leadership in the UAE, EDA’s programmes and initiatives are aligned to the live requirements in the regional and international scene. The new ambassador programme reflects the commitment of the academy to provide the students with a comprehensive view of the challenges in the diplomatic arena and the most effective solutions to overcome them,” she added.

The first stage of the programme has already been completed with the new ambassadors taking part. The next two sessions are scheduled to take place this month, and will also include dining and social etiquette training.

Established in 2014 by the UAE’s leadership, the EDA aims to educate and prepare the next generation of Emirati diplomats to help support the country’s foreign policy and standing in the international community.
