Ras Al Khaimah: A two-year-old girl sustained serious facial injuries after being hit by a park train as she was crossing the road on Friday evening.

An official at Ras Al Khaimah police told Gulf News that the Egyptian girl, identified as A.M.J, was on a weekend outing with her family.

Lt Col Mohammad Obaid Al Khatiri, acting director of Al Digdaga police station, said the girl appeared in front of the train without warning. The driver tried to stop the train, but failed.

Al Khatri said police and paramedics arrived on the scene immediately after the police operations room was alerted.

The girl was transfered to Saqr Hospital and was admitted to the intensive care unit.

A hospital official told Gulf News on Saturday that the girl had severe facial injuries. The girl had surgery, but remains under observation in the ICU. Doctors are confident of a recovery.

Ras Al Khaimah Police have launched an investigation.
