Abu Dhabi: The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has called upon all owners and managers of Ramadan tents across the capital to apply for permits before setting up the tent.

In a statement sent by the municipality yesterday, officials explained that permits for the tents, which were issued after all licensing formalities were fulfilled, ensured the safety and security of the structures for visitors.

"Those wishing to set up Ramadan tents must apply for temporary permits, along with all supporting documents, after which a field inspection visit will be made to the specified site. This visit will check on issues to ensure basic convenience and security," said Fadil Al Mazroui, director of municipal services at the municipality.

"For instance, the tent must not be set up on, or cause damage to, public utility lines, pavements or streets. In addition, the structures cannot block streets and entry or exits to buildings and car parks. They must also not lead to congestion as a result of their location, or be located on the private property of someone else," the official explained.

Al Fadil also said permits would be issued as soon as all the basic safety standards had been ensured.

The statement said the Ramadan tents must also be duly removed at the end of the Eid Al Fitr holiday.
