Sharjah: Sharjah Municipality has announced its plan to implement a number of environmental projects and programmes to eradicate environmental hazards.

Sultan Abdullah Al Mualla, director general of Sharjah Municipality, said maintaining the cleanliness of Sharjah is among the municipality's top priorities.

The municipality has spared no effort in providing the highest level of cleanliness to residents, with the objective of allowing all residents to live in a healthy and safe environment, Al Mualla said.

Announcing a new set of measures for industrial areas, Al Mualla stressed the importance of the municipality's role in protecting the environment from pollution and its efforts to conduct studies and surveys to monitor solid, liquid and gaseous wastes.

Physical, chemical and biometric measurements are taken regularly to ensure conducive work environments in factories, workshops, garages and other establishments and laboratories using state-of-the-art equipment, he said.

Al Mualla said violators must be held liable for their offences, such as displaying goods or leaving waste outside their facilities, practising an activity or occupying a location without permission, and burning electrical wires.
