Sharjah:  An Asian man died and two others were rescued after a cargo vessel sank in Khalid lagoon in Sharjah on Saturday, Sharjah Police told Gulf News on Monday.

The other crew members escaped unhurt. The vessel sank due to overloading, an official said.  “The vessel sank on Saturday morning with a number of Asian crew members on board,” the official said.

One crew member drowned in the incident and his body was fished out by a rescue team, he said. The official said two other crew members who were rescued sustained injuries and they were moved to Kuwaiti hospital where their condition was described as stable.

The police operations room dispatched rescue teams and notified the Coast Guard. Buhairah Police are probing the incident to determine the cause of the incident.
