Dubai: Three people died in six accidents when they stopped their vehicles in the middle of the road, Dubai Police said on Monday.

The number of casualties dropped in such accidents in the first nine months of this year compared to 12 deaths during the same period last year.

Five people were injured this year compared to 18 last year in such accidents.

Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of Traffic Department at Dubai Police, urged motorists to remove their vehicles from the road in case of glitches and avoid stepping out their vehicles car on highways.

“Some drivers stop their vehicles in middle of the road while waiting for help or police patrols but this behaviour is suicidal,” Brigadier Al Mazroui said.

He said that such accidents mostly occur when motorists come out of their vehicles in the middle of the road to check damage to their vehicles.

“Our experts have noted that motorists put their lives at risk when they step out of their vehicles in the middle of the road. In case of an accident the motorist should move his vehicle to the side of the road and call police rather than waiting in middle of the road for help,” Brigadier Al Mazroui added.

According to the traffic law, the fine for stopping the vehicle in the middle of the road without any valid reason is Dh1,000 and six black points.

As many as 29,440 drivers were fined this year for this offence.
