Dubai: Dubai’s Air Wing helped an Indian sailor whose left index finger was amputated in an accident aboard a ship in Dubai’s territorial waters.

Major General Anas Al Matroushi, Director of the Transport and Rescue Department at Dubai Police, said the operations room received a call about an injured man on a ship 17 nautical miles from Dubai’s shore.

The ship, Passat, which the man was on, had no helipad.

A helicopter, flown by Lt Col Pilot Essam Bin Hafith and accompanied by Lieutenant Abdullah Al Sha’er, in addition to a medical and technical team, reached the ship in record time.

The man, who was identified as Heer Jay Singh, 44, was airlifted using a crane and rushed to Rashid Hospital for treatment.

Singh’s injury was classified as severe.

Maj Gen Al Matroushi said that the work the Air Wing does is a national duty and part of their responsibility towards society. He added

that the Air Wing has conducted many humanitarian missions, such as transporting critical medical cases between hospitals in the UAE and rescuing people who get lost in the desert.
