Abu Dhabi: A wide range of summer activities for schoolchildren in the wmirate of Abu Dhabi was announced by Adec (Abu Dhabi Education Council) on Monday, under the theme ‘Sayfuna Mumayaz’ (More Entertainment, More Fun).

Students will be able to take part in sports, educational programmes and competitions, with one of the competitions seeing students assemble and make their own robots.

Mohammad Salem Al Daheri, Adec Executive Director of School Operations, said that the summer programme combines both entertainment and education, “Sayfuna Mumayaz is not only an entertainment project, but also aims to enhance student skills, develop their talents and teach them how to use their free time wisely. Adec is keen to adopt a number of programmes inside UAE or abroad, including Sayfuna Mumayaz, which is considered the largest programme that attracts students of all age categories and includes several activities and skills that refine and improve student skills.”

Mentioning the specific activities that will be organised by the programme, Al Daheri said, “This year, Sayfuna Mumayaz in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Gharbia includes six different activities supervised by experts — English Creative Writing Competition, Innovation Journey, Mathletics, Make Your Own Video, Injaz, and Arts Island.”

The Innovation Journey will be aimed at students from Grade 4 to Grade 9, and will involve a competition in which students assemble their own robots using their knowledge in the fields of science, engineering, mathematics, and computer programming.

Mathletics will be an online mathematics competition, with the aim of making students enjoy the subject of maths through the use of competition. Students will also be able to use their smartphones and other personal devices to play against each other.

Al Daheri said that Real Madrid Academy would organise a football competition for students in two age groups (11-12, and 13-15), with the competition being overseen by the academy. The winners of the competition will travel to Madrid, Spain, where they will get the chance to train with coaches from Real Madrid Football Academy.

Adec will also launch a social media account on Instagram with the hashtag #Wainkum. Students and staff will be able to share their pictures and experiences during the summer programmes in July and August. A competition will also be launched for the most creative picture.
