Dubai: The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) launched a new social media competition to encourage parents to establish regular reading habits with their children, according to a statement on Thursday.

Starting Sunday, the competition will invite parents to promise to read with their kids for at least 10 minutes on 10 different days between April 10 and May 10. To win the #10Minutes10Days challenge, parents will need to upload an image to Twitter or Instagram showing them reading with their children.

“We know that reading regularly is one of the best ways for parents and children to spend quality time together. We hope that this challenge will encourage parents to give their kids the gift of reading,” stated Mouza Al Suwaidi, KHDA’s Chief of Engagement.

Winners of the challenge will receive one free book for themselves, and one free book for their child, every month for a whole year.

The #10Minutes10Days challenge is supported by the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature.

To participate in the competition, parents will need to go to the KHDA website and sign the pledge promising to read to their child for 10 minutes on 10 separate days between April 10 and May 10. After doing so, they will need to upload at least one photo of them reading to their child to social media, using the #10Minutes10Days hashtag, and mentioning @KHDADubai for Instagram or @KHDA for Twitter.
