Abu Dhabi: Students from Khalifa University have signed a pledge to uphold academic integrity while they pursue their studies at the institution, a practice all universities in the UAE adhere to as they follow a strict policy of upholding academic integrity, and enact policies during each academic year to ensure students stay clear of any misconduct.

The Khalifa University campaign was launched by the Student Council, and sees the students agree to abide by a number of academic principles, including not cheating, lying, or stealing.

“The academic pledge reminds our students how to act, and tells them why they shouldn’t cheat or plagiarise, and that they should abide by the university’s rules,” said Hamad Alaydaroos, President of the Student Council.

This year, as part of the campaign, an artwork competition has also been launched, with students encouraged to send in their photographs, paintings, and drawings that best demonstrate the academic values they have agreed to follow.

“As a student council, we are trying to get students involved and create a lifestyle that engages our students and helps them show their creativity,” he added.

Dr Todd Laursen, President of Khalifa University, spoke positively of the campaign and said it was important to get students directly involved in such events, “While the Academic Integrity Pledge is not new, this kind of interactive involvement is, and I believe it really gets the students thinking about what the honesty pledge in accordance with the values of the university and the country really means,” he said.

“I look forward to seeing the artwork that comes out of the competition, as our students are very creative, and I’m sure they will capture the essence of the pledge,” he added.
