Sharjah: A number of people are being investigated in the so-called dirty dancing incident in which an important sporting celebrity was caught on video at a wedding in Khor Fakkan.

Police confirmed they are investigating a number of people who appeared in the video.

The Khor Fakkan Police investigation team have interviewed several people.

Salem Sahoo, a lawyer, said if the suspects identified in the video are found guilty before the court, punishment would be according to the law which calls for either a jail term or fine or both depending on their roles in the video.

Meanwhile, the man sought by police for alleged dirty dancing caught on video at a wedding and who later issued an emotional apology for his “big mistake” is still outside the country on a business trip.

“I made a big mistake and I offended many people and I am very sorry about this,” said Khalid Hurriyah, a Sharjah businessman and former chairman of the UAE Fans Association football team.

His apology was made through an Ajman Radio public programme during a telephone conversation from Kuwait where he is filming new art work.

Hurriyah said when he returns to the UAE he will go to Khor Fakkan police station along with his lawyer and surrender.

Meanwhile, Sharjah Sport club earlier issued a circulation banning Hurriyah from entering the club till further notice.

Sharjah Police had said in a statement on Monday that a man whom they had identified as Khalid Hurriyah — a “public figure in the UAE” — was captured in a video posted on the internet dancing with a woman in a manner not befitting proper etiquette in public.
