Dubai: Five people were saved from drowning at the Burj Al Arab beach, reported Dubai Police’s search and rescue department.

In light of the separate incidents, which all took place between 11.30am and 12.30pm, Dubai Police had issued a warning cautioning the public to avoid swimming when there are strong currents.

Lieutenant Colonel Juma Ahmad Butti Al Falasi, director of Search and Rescue, called on beach-goers to comply with the guidelines and respond to the colour of the raised flag. He emphasised that people should avoid swimming when the flag is red, as it signals danger due to strong currents.

He also confirmed that Dubai Police will work with the Search and Rescue team, which will be on call 24/7 to assist and respond to any cases of emergency on Dubai beaches in the fastest time possible.

Both teams have prepared erescue boats, water bikes, and police cars should any emergency arise, said Al Falasi.

In the case of an emergency, call the Dubai Police’s operation room on 999, and accurately explain the address, situation, and emergency at hand, he said.
