Dubai: A jobless woman, whom police caught stopping cars in Naif streets and offering to have sex with men for Dh50, was jailed for six months for working in prostitution.

Police busted the 26-year-old Ugandan woman, S.N., in Naif where she was asking drivers to pull over at random and offering to have sex with them for money in March.

The woman presented a passport that belongs to someone else once she was taken in for questioning at the police station.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted S.N. of working in prostitution after she pleaded guilty.

According to the primary ruling, presiding judge Urfan Omar said the accused will be deported following the completion of her imprisonment.

A police lieutenant testified that the defendant handed him a Ugandan passport that belonged to someone called N.A.

“She was apprehended because she had been stopping people in public and offering them sexual services. During questioning, I discovered that the passport wasn’t hers … the travel document had a photo of some other person. We made her sit down for the iris scan test, the results of which confirmed that she had been convicted and deported from the UAE for working in prostitution. She returned to the country illegally … then we referred her to the public prosecution,” the lieutenant s

S.N. was quoted as admitting to prosecutors that she worked in prostitution and that she had been stopping pedestrians and offering to have sex with them for Dh50 in Naif.

Records said S.N. was tried before the Dubai Misdemeanours Court for impersonation during a police interrogation, returning illegally to the UAE after having been deported and using an official document that belongs to someone else.

The primary ruling remains subject to appeal within 10 days.
