Dubai: A jobless man has been accused of injecting heroin into his friend with a syringe and causing his death in a case of drug overdose.

Drug enforcement officers were informed about a suspected case of drug overdose when an Emirati was found dead in his car in Satwa in October 2015.

Police cars and drug enforcement officers cordoned off the area after the victim was found dead in the driver’s seat of his car parked to the side of the road at 9am.

Records said that the heroin syringe with which the deceased was believed to have been injected was also found under the seat, besides other banned pills and drugs.

Police investigation revealed that a 36-year-old Emirati jobless man had been accompanying the victim in his car at the time when the incident happened.

Criminal investigation reports also confirmed that the fingerprints lifted off the syringe matched with those of the 36-year-old man.

Drug prosecutors accused the suspect of providing the deceased with drugs that led to his death.

According to the accusation sheet, prosecutors said the suspect had supplied the victim with drugs by injecting him with heroin through the arm.

The suspect failed to appear before the Dubai Court of First Instance where he was scheduled to enter his plea on Thursday.

An antinarcotics policeman claimed to prosecutors that police were informed about a suspected drug overdose death in Satwa.

“We rushed to the location and found the victim dead in a car registered in his name. Forensic examiners lifted fingerprints from the crime scene … further investigation revealed that there were fingerprints of more than one person. We also found a cigarette butt and other drug materials on the car’s floor and under the seats,” the policeman testified to prosecutors.

Presiding judge Urfan Omar said the suspect will be sentenced in absentia on September 28.
