Dubai: A salesman has been accused of stabbing his brother with a knife and trying to kill him after they had a heated argument.

The 36-year-old Pakistani salesman, S.A., was said to have stabbed his brother once in the chest and tried to kill him in February over reasons that remain undisclosed.

Prosecutors charged the suspect with a premeditated murder attempt.

The suspect entered an innocent plea when he showed up before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday.

“No, I did not try to kill him,” argued the suspect when he defended himself before presiding judge Mohammad Jamal.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said the suspect intended to kill his brother as medical reports confirmed that the victim had been stabbed in a part of his body that could have proved fatal.

A police corporal claimed to prosecutors that Dubai Police’s operation room was informed about a stabbing incident in Hor Al Anz.

“A police patrol was dispatched to the location. We found blood stains on the street close to where the incident happened. On arresting the defendant, he claimed that he had a fight with his brother when they were inside their house. S.A. alleged he grabbed the knife from the kitchen and stabbed his brother … then he ran away from the room. He claimed that he threw the knife in a nearby location,” the corporal testified to prosecutors.

The defendant was quoted admitting to prosecutors that he stabbed his brother.

Medical reports confirmed that the victim sustained a stab wound in his chest that pierced his lung and caused severe bleeding and low blood pressure. A ruling will be heard on June 23.
