Dubai: A businessman has been accused of threatening his former business partner and sending him SMSs of blasphemous and offensive nature following a financial dispute.

The 39-year-old Lebanese businessman was said to have been involved in a business partnership with the Emirati man before they had a financial dispute in October.

After the two men failed to reach an amicable settlement following their dispute, according to records, the Lebanese man sent several SMSs in which he cursed God and threatened the Emirati man.

The 39-year-old sent to the Emirati’s man mobile three SMSs in which he offended the later, threatened to harm him and cursed God as well.

Prosecutors accused the Lebanese suspect of blasphemy and of threatening the Emirati man.

The suspect pleaded not guilty and refuted his accusations when he showed up before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Tuesday.

“No I did not sent him anything,” the suspect argued before presiding judge Mohammad Jamal.

The Emirati claimed to prosecutors that the incident happened during the period when they had a business partnership.

“In October, he sent me three SMSs and cursed God in one of them. He also wrote in an SMS that he would show me and teach me how to deal with people and treat them … he also said that he would get back his money in his own way,” the Emirati testified to prosecutors.

According to the Emirati man’s statement, one of the SMSs read ‘you do what you want and I will do what I want but this I assure you that I am going to escalate the matter and let everybody know’.

The Lebanese was cited as admitting to prosecutors that he sent several messages of blasphemous nature and offensive SMSs as well following a financial dispute that he had with his former partner.

Presiding judge Jamal adjourned the hearing to hear the prosecution witness when the court reconvenes on May 30.
