Ramallah: Israeli bulldozers, escorted by heavy police and army security, on Tuesday demolished a house and a commercial establishment owned by a Palestinian resident of occupied East Jerusalem under the pretext that the owner did not have the necessary building permit.

Nayef Eskafi, who constructed two properties on his land 10 years ago, said his properties were demolished.

Sources said that Eskafi has been in continuous confrontation with the Jerusalem Municipality to obtain the necessary building permits but that it was impossible to achieve as the authorities in the holy city do not issue the Palestinian residents any kind of building permits.

The sources said that the Israelis have demolished another house, and a commercial establishment in Beit Hanina.

According to a report issued by the Jerusalem Centre for Economic and Social Rights, Israelis have demolished eight houses owned by Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem recently while approving thousands of new housing units for colonists.
