Ramallah: Palestinian reconciliation and the successful formation of a unity government are believed to be the lifeline for the current West Bank government which faces scandals.

Many of the West Bank cabinet's ministers will be interrogated by the Palestinian Anti-Corruption Committee and be put on trial over corruption charges.

Representatives at the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) will wage a fierce war against several corrupted ministers of the current Palestinian government should the Cairo reconciliation talks between the Palestinian factions fail, said a top Fatah official.

Speaking to Gulf News on Wednesday, Najat Abu Baker, a Fatah representative at the (PLC) said "within the coming 48 hours, we will find out whether the Palestinian internal unity is achievable or not, and we will act accordingly".

"We have already planned a war against members of the current Palestinian cabinet, and we will use all possible means to sack the corrupted ministers," she said, adding that at least seven ministers will be targeted apart from four who have already stepped down.

She said that the Fatah Parliamentary Block and other deputies have already sent a letter to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas officially informing him that the parliament representatives will wage a war and conduct grave public campaigns against corrupt ministers.

"We have solid proof against those ministers who have never been assessed and their performance will be evaluated by the PLC," she said.

"This is the most corrupted government in the Palestinian history, but the Palestinian parliament," she said. Palestinian factions have agreed to discuss issues related to forming a unity government on January 26.

Abu Baker says systematic corruption in the government includes huge sums of money allocated to employees of the Finance Ministry.

Five women employees at the Ministry of Women Affairs have been sacked after they were allegedly subject to sexual harassment by a top ministry official who kept his job.

The women say they were unfairly sacked after they they lodged a complaint against the official.
