Ankara: Turkey is seeking Iran's support for its fight against Kurdish rebels, as thousands of troops have launched an operation against militants in northern Iraq.
Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu met Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in Ankara on Friday to discuss closer cooperation against the autonomy-seeking rebels, who have also fought Iran.
In the past, Turkey and Iran have staged coordinated attacks against the main rebel base on Qandil Mountain which sits on the Iraqi-Iranian border deep inside northern Iraq. About 10,000 Turkish troops are going after Kurdish rebels in southeastern Turkey and across the border in Iraq since Wednesday after 24 soldiers were killed in suspected rebel attacks.
