Manama: Arabs have expressed deep sadness over the death of Warda, the Algerian diva who died on Thursday, leaving a legacy of hit songs on love, freedom and patriotism.

Warda Al Jazairia (Warda, the Algerian Rose) was born in France in 1939 to an Algerian father and Lebanese mother. She died at her home in Cairo, apparently from a heart attack, her family said. She will be buried in Algeria and Algerian president Abdul Aziz Bouteflika sent a private plane to repatriate the body.

Haifa Wehbe, the Lebanese singer, said that the passing away of Warda is a huge loss. Artists and fans used their Twitter accounts and other social media to pay tribute to the singer.
