Ramallah: An Israeli colonist organisation is putting 14 new unlicensed homes for sale in the Israeli colony of Ma'ale David in the Arab neighbourhood of Ras Al Amoud.

Organisations opposed to the construction in occupied East Jerusalem submitted objections to the colonists' move, but the Local Planning and Building Committee of the West Jerusalem Municipality on Wednesday rejected all the objections, paving the way for the official licensing of those new homes.

Speaking to Gulf News, Ahmad Sub Laban, an expert on Israeli colonial activities in occupied Jerusalem said that an Israeli colonist organisation has turned the old premises of the Israeli Police in Ras Al Amoud to residential homes and put them for sale without being licensed by the occupied Jerusalem Municipality. "Following the rejection of the objections, the committee will grant the colonist organisation the official licences within a very short while," he said. "This is the only official measure for the committee which is there to help the colonists and facilitate their work," he added.

The premises of the Israeli police was originally that of the Jordanian police in Ras Al Amoud, but after the 1967 war and the annexation of occupied East Jerusalem, Israeli police took over for some time before passing it to a colonist organisation.
