Ramallah: Israeli occupation forces have gone about leaving matchboxes at the entrances of mosques and homes in the West Bank city of Nablus in an effort to intimidate residents.

Each matchbox carries a warning in Arabic that reads: “Hamas is setting fire to the West Bank”.

Israeli occupation forces have also started to distribute Ramadan candy — also carrying anti-Hamas messages.

The residents of Nablus, Ramallah, Tulkarem and Qalqiliya were taken by surprise as Israeli forces arrived with trucks loaded with candy and lollipops.

The candy carried messages denouncing Hamas, which Israeli has accused of being responsible for the kidnapping and deaths of three colonists who had been missing for two weeks.

The messages read: “Ramadan Kareem — a little candy... as Hamas leaves a bitter taste for life in the West Bank.”

Israeli soldiers left the candy at the entrances to Palestinian houses, public areas, mosques and market places.

Political analysts say that Israel has been trying to create a rift between Hamas and the Palestinian public.

The Israelis have been holding Hamas responsible for the damage the West Bank suffers every night during the ongoing operation.
