Ramallah: A classified Israeli Foreign Ministry report which warns that the state is facing a deterioration in its global standing in 2015 has been sent to Israeli embassies and missions worldwide.
Israeli news source Ynet has reported that the document warns of consequences such as the breakdown of diplomatic relationships, stronger economic and academic boycotts, restrictions on the import of security hardware and the loss of support from the United States.
The report states that much of the diplomatic damage will come from “moves to mark colony products, stop the supply of replacement parts; debates on sanctions against Israel; demands for compensation for damage caused by Israel to European projects in the Palestinian territories; European activity in Area C, under Israeli rule; and more.”
In addition, the willingness of some European states to move to recognition of a Palestinian state is seen as a problem.
The report was written by the Foreign Ministry’s deputy director-general for coordination, Gilad Cohen.
The report lists the economic sanctions and boycotts imposed on Israel as a result of the cessation of the peace talks with Palestinians.
In it, Cohen states “The Europeans are creating a clear connection between diplomatic relations and economic ones (and) in this context, it is important to note that Europe is Israel’s main trading partner.”
