Sana’a: A civilian was killed and more than ten injured on Thursday afternoon when government forces opened fire on peaceful protesters in the Yemen’s southern city of Taiz, an activist told Gulf News.

Government forces also shelled the camping site of the protesters and other parts of the city, hours after the arrival of the UN envoy Jamal Bin Omar.

Thousands of protesters on Thursday held massive demonstration in the city of Taiz, seeking the ouster of the country’s troubled leader Ali Abdullah Saleh and rejecting the GCC deal. Local residents said that government is punishing them by cutting water, electricity and other vital services. In the capital, crowds of people protested against Saleh’s regime and denounced any plan that will not bring the regime to justice.
