Al Ain: After bracing a sizzling hot day with mercury shooting beyond 45 degree Celsius, people in Al Ain faced a mild dust storm and lighting on Sunday evening.

Al Waqn area, 100km from the city, witnessed heavy rain also.

Dust and sand forced people to take refuge inside shops and other indoor facilities. The situation, however, did not last long,  with conditions getting clear in less than an hour. Thick clouds were also hovering on the sky with occasional lightning but conditions remained dry without any rain in the city limits.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said the mild winds were expected to kick up dust and sand at times in some areas. Towering clouds also dominate the skies in some eastern and southern areas of the country.

According to the NCMS, hot and hazy weather will continue in general in the next few days with another slight rise in temperatures. The convergence of some towering clouds over eastern mountains and southern areas by afternoon is also likely.

Winds will, however, be moderate in general, freshening at times, but causing blowing dust and sand in the interior parts of the country. The sea is expected to be moderately rough.

A staggering high maximum temperature was recorded in Mukhariz, near Saudi Arabian border, in the Western region of the country. The NCMS report said it was 55.2 degree Celsius. The area also suffered from dust storm in the afternoon.
