Abu Dhabi: Owners of 25 abandoned buildings in the capital have been urged by the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City to obtain the necessary permits and demolish the structures.

In a statement sent today (March 3), the municipality said it allowed a 15-day grace period for the owners to complete all required procedures and begin the demolition of the buildings. Municipal inspectors have already surveyed these structures, and sent out demotion notices to landlords after finding the buildings unfit for human habitation.

According to the municipality, the abandoned buildings are not just an eyesore on Abu Dhabi’s urban landscape but also degrade public health by accumulating and allowing the spread of insects and rodents.

Landlords can visit the municipality to apply for and collect the demolition permits. If they fail to respond, the municipality will assign specialised entities to demolish the structures and remove the debris, but the expenses will have to be paid by the building owners.
