Abu Dhabi: It’s often been noted that you don’t know where you are going in the future unless you know where you have been.

Keeping that adage in mind, municipal officials here are intent on restoring some of the historical flavour to sections of the city through a special campaign to remind residents of their city’s past.

Residents in the capital are being offered the chance to learn more about their neighbourhoods, as part of a new initiative launched by the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City.

The new campaign aims to familiarise residents with the history of the areas they live in.

Activities

The Capital District initiative recently kicked off with a set of activities in the park located at the intersection of Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street and Shakhbout Bin Sultan Street.

“The campaign aims to reinvigorate residential neighborhoods. We will select various neighbourhood parks, and inform residents about historical incidents and previous inhabitants of the locality. At the same time, there will be cultural performances, competitions, heritage-related workshops and a chance for the elderly to narrate their experiences,” said Abdullah Al Junaibi, director of community services at the Municipality.
