Abu Dhabi: Reading skills for children are being encouraged and promoted at the Children's Stories forum, launched by Abu Dhabi Municipality yesterday.

The programme, organised by the Community Services Division at the municipality, is being held at the Formal Park, and targets both government and private school pupils whose ages range from 5 to 9 years. It is being held from 9 am to 12pm on the first Thursday of each month. Pupils of Alaafaq Model School were invited to participate today in the first forum.

Other forums shall be held respectively at both Formal and Bani Yas Parks on Thursdays — March 4, April 8, November 18 and December 9. One or two stories shall be chosen in each forum. At its conclusion, stories, video tapes covering forum events and beverages will be distributed to children.

Dr Badriya Ahmad Al Daheri, Director of Community Services Division, said that this initiative was part of the Municipality's strategy and interactive programmes with all members and sectors of the community of all ages.

"Encouraging children to read from a young age plays an important role in consolidating and developing this skill in this era of information revolution, in which many techniques have obsessed children minds and their way of thinking," Dr Badriya said.
