Al Ain: Al Ain Hospital on Tuesday announced it is enforcing the UAE's Federal National Tobacco Law and will become a smoke-free zone.

The move is part of the hospital's new campaign called Fit Air which has been launched ahead of Ramadan, said a hospital official.

Al Ain Hospital, which is owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (Seha) and managed by the Medical University of Vienna and Vamed, will become a 100 per cent smoke-free zone with effect from the start of Ramadan, he added.

Internal policy

"This initiative is in line with the hospital's support of the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi's Weqaya project and internal policies and regulation," said the official.

The Federal National Tobacco Law prohibits smoking in all public areas or public property. Government-owned buildings such as schools, universities, hospitals, theatres and fitness centres will have to abide by the smoking ban.

In addition to creating a new smoke-free campus, Al Ain Hospital is supporting the well-being of the community through the launch of a smoking cessation clinic at Oud Al Touba Family Medical Clinic.

George Jepson, Chief Executive Officer of Al Ain Hospital, said: "To provide an exceptional level of quality patient care it is essential that we comply fully with the no smoking laws of the country."

He said it was important to provide a clean environment for all.
