Dubai: The Minister of Environment and Water Dr Rashid Ahmad Bin Fahd has issued a resolution lifting the ban on the import of Italian beef which was imposed after taking into account the epidemiological situation of mad cow disease.

The resolution comes in light of the ministry’s keenness to implement its strategic objectives regarding its contribution to achieving food security and protecting the community and livestock from diseases and epidemics, especially diseases transmitted between humans and animals, as well as preserving public health.

According to the resolution, every shipment of beef from Italy must have a valid and accredited veterinary certificate, a certificate of origin and a halal slaughtering certificate by an Islamic centre accredited by the Ministry of Environment and Water.

All shipments are subject to quarantine procedures observed in the UAE.
