Dubai Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, yesterday issued a resolution regarding information security to develop an integrated strategy and unified policy for information security and systems in Dubai Government.

Resolution No. 12 of 2012 aims to create a secure and reliable environment for storage of government information and adopting the best means that help curb threats that may violate information security, as well as enhance awareness about the importance of information security.

Under the new resolution, an information security committee will be set up. The Department of Dubai e-Government will be tasked with preparing an information security system which will be submitted to the newly formed committee for approval and providing government bodies with the approved system.

It also aims to ensure a secure electronic culture, and information-based community, specify the responsibilities of government bodies, their employees and customers.

The resolution will help set mechanisms that ensure a quick, effective and appropriate response to information security-related emergencies.

Three main themes

As per the resolution, the information security system will consist of three main themes, including governance of information security, its operations and ensuring the protection of information, information management, and the protection of the confidentiality of information and ensuring that this information is correct and conform to information at other government bodies.

The information security system is applied to government bodies, their employees and all information regarding the government.

Regarding Emergency and Error Management, the resolution aims to draw up a plan to deal with threats related to information security. The Department of Dubai e-Government will be responsible for laying down an effective strategy to enhance partnership, exchange of information and expertise and cooperation between government bodies and private sector with regard to information security.
