London: Abdul Rahman Ganem Al Mutaiwe’e, UAE Ambassador to the UK, told Gulf News on Tuesday that investigations showed that the hammer used in the attack was found dumped in a rubbish bin on the same floor of the hotel.

“Eyewitnesses and CCTV showed that the attacker was non-Caucasian and was not wearing a mask so his face was clearly visible. Police are talking with the victim who was able to defend herself and who left marks on the attacker’s body,” said Al Mutaiwe’e.

“The embassy is doing its utmost to provide the family with assistance at this difficult time, and have staff at the hospital, as well as others to accompany family members. This attack has touched the issue of national security in the UK,” he said.

“The UAE embassy is providing assistance to the families and has helped them check into another hotel. A delegate from the embassy has been assigned to the hospital to help the family, and as they have been unable to move anything from their hotel room as the investigation continues, we are providing them with financial assistance,” added Al Mutaiwe’e.

A source at the UAE Embassy in the UK said on Tuesday that Scotland Yard was investigating CCTV footage in and around the hotel and could not reveal any details during the investigation.

“We suspect the attacker had been following the victims for the past two to three days and was aware of their routine to and from the hotel. On the day of the incident the three victims had been shopping. And the family has asked that hotel staff also be questioned,” he said.
