Sharjah:  After five years in a coma, young Mohammad Shoaib, who was hit in the head by a football while playing at school aged 11, died on Sunday morning in hospital.

"My heart has been ripped out. I cannot imagine my life without my little boy," said Farah, Shoaib's mother.

Shoaib, from Pakistan, who would have turned 16 on Wednesday, died at Al Kuwaiti hospital after an extended coma.

Smiling

"I was with my son at night. I left him a few hours before he died. He held my hand. I felt him press on my hand," said his mother, sobbing.

"I saw him smiling at me. I wish I could hear his voice one day but he is gone," the devastated mother said.

Shoaib was buried yesterday in Sharjah. He never got to enjoy his childhood.

Shoaib died at 6am. The hospital's staff, who took care of him for the past two years, told Gulf News that they were very sad about his death.

"It was so hard to inform the mother," an official from the hospital said yesterday.

Farah said she was told that her son was very sick.

"When I arrived at the hospital with my daughter Rabiya I saw little Shoaib. He passed away before I reached him," she said.

"My son was only 11 years old when he fell ill. He used to play football in school with his classmates. On the day of the incident, one of his friends kicked the football, which hit my son on the back of his head and neck," she said.

Faith

"I was taking care of my little son, waiting for him to open his eyes and talk to me. I just wished I could give him my life," she said with tears in her eyes.

Farah, who is suffering from severe health problems, said she had prayed day and night to get the health of her son back.

"I have faith in Allah and I accept my destiny but I cannot take the pain of losing my son," she said.

"My only wish was to hear him call me ‘mum', hug me and kiss me," she said.

"He was very ill for the past few months."
