Dubai Muna Al Gurg makes things happen.

At 35, this Emirati businesswoman is one of the most prominent faces of trading giant Al Gurg Group, where she sits as director.

Passion for the arts

Despite a hard week, she believes 9-to-5 workdays are not enough to better her country, she told XPRESS after being elected vice-chairwoman of the UAE chapter of the Young Arab Leaders (YAL).

"It is out of a sense of duty and obligation," Al Gurg told her peers at YAL's gala evening at the Capital Club of the Dubai International Financial Centre..

Her passion for the arts as director of the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre and the DIFC's Arts and Culture Committee has made her the hands down choice to spearhead YAL's Cultural Initiative.

Al Gurg sees the emerging arts and culture in the UAE as a real platform for young Emiratis to grow. "I want to make a difference for the next generation. I believe that it is through arts and culture that we can open young people's minds," Al Gurg said. "My role is to research what is currently happening on the cultural front, identify the gaps and further develop ideas."
