Abu Dhabi: The UAE wants to enhance cooperation with China in trade, science, technology and renewable and clean energy in its quest to become a link between Central Asia and North Africa and Europe.

In an exclusive interview with the Beijing Youth Daily, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, highlighted the importance of UAE-Chinese relations and the keenness of the UAE leadership to improve the scope of cooperation with the Asian giant.

On future economic cooperation, Shaikh Mohammad said: "[The] contacts between Chinese and Arabs began in the 7th century. I myself have visited China on a couple of occasions, and I enjoyed seeing your cities and your culture first hand. China's remarkable growth is a success story that we have observed with great interest. Dubai is like the ancient Chinese capital of Chang'an, a global cosmopolitan city, where people from 200 countries live and work together."

Trade partner

"As we today follow the distinguished Chinese experience of development with great interest, we strive to strengthen cooperation between the two countries not only in trade, but also in science, technology, and clean and renewable energy sectors," Shaikh Mohammad said.

At present, China is Dubai's second largest trade partner. Nearly 3,000 Chinese companies are registered in Dubai, and more than 180,000 Chinese citizens live here.
The Vice-President also touched on the main points of his vision and his definition of success. He explained his view of the youth and their role in institutions, as well as the role of women in development.

Key points: three steps to success

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, told the Beijing Youth Daily, there are no secrets to his success.

"I will summarise three key points, he said.

"First is the vision. You have to have a vision that would benefit the people and help them achieve their dreams, and you must believe in your ability to achieve the vision.

"Second is the team. You need to choose a dedicated team that believes in the vision and has the positive energy and outlook to accomplish it.

"Third, keep building. Do not stop building on the vision. It is an inspiration for all around you, and is your catalyst to work towards your goals diligently every morning, doing and achieving something new that benefits your people."
