Dubai: Tired of driving on highways littered with potholes and rundown patches? If you want to drive only on roads with top-notch quality, there’s no need to look farther.

The UAE’s highways are considered the best quality in the world, according to the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report for 2013-2014.

The survey showed that the quality of UAE’s roads scored 6.6 points on a scale of 1 to 7, with 1 being extremely underdeveloped and 7 being extensive and efficient.

The report ranked the country’s roads in the first place out of the 148 countries surveyed. Following closely behind are France and Oman, each earning a score of 6.4 points.

Portugal came next, with 6.3 points, followed by Hong Kong, Austria, Singapore and Switzerland, scoring 6.2 points each.

Road conditions in low-income countries were rated the lowest. The country with the lowest score was Moldova (1.7 points), said to be the poorest nation in Europe.

The bottom list also included Guinea (1.9), Timor-Leste (2), Romania (2.1) and Ukraine (2.1)
