Tehran: The UAE-Iran joint Consular Committee on Tuesday held its sixth meeting in Tehran. 

The UAE delegation was headed by Dr. Tarek Ahmad Al Heidan, Assistant to UAE Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, while the Iranian delegation was led by Hassan Qashqavi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Iranian Expatriates' Affairs. 

Saif Mohammad Obaid Al Za'abi, UAE Ambassador to Iran, and representatives from various departments and Ministries from both countries were also present. 

Al Heidan conveyed the greetings of Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister, and said that Shaikh Abdullah pays special attention to the relations between both countries and ensuring that the work of the joint Consular Committee is successful. 

Al Heidan pointed out the historic, religious and geographic bonds between the UAE and Iran, and reaffirmed the importance of addressing Consular-related issues to further develop cooperation and progress. 

Al Heidan reaffirmed that relations and high level communication between both countries are continuing, and expressed his thanks and gratitude for the hospitality shown to the visiting UAE delegation. 

Al Heidan expressed hope that the current meeting would yield positive results. He also praised the work and efforts of Al Za'abi and Mohammad Reza Fayad, Iranian Ambassador to the UAE. 

Qashqavi emphasized the development of bilateral relations between the UAE and Iran, and pointed out that high level visits are evidence of the good relations between both countries in various fields. 

The committee's discussion will revolve around prospects of cooperation in the field of consular work and visas, in addition to discussing ways to facilitate the travel of citizens from both countries. 

It is worth noting that bilateral trade between both countries was $12 billion in 2009.
