Dubai: Transport Corp will hand over to police all passenger property left in its taxis and buses. Under the new procedure, lost items will be handed in at the police station nearest to where the passenger got out.

Mohammed Obaid Al Mulla, Director of Dubai Transport Corp, said the scheme is being introduced for the benefit of passengers.

"The decision will be implemented in the near future," he said. "Drivers are undergoing training at the human resource development department where they are being told about the appropriate steps they must take.

"Prior to depositing the lost items at the police stations, the drivers will file a report on the items found with Dubai Transport Corp." Passengers who have lost items may contact the corporation's reservation and distribution unit which will coordinate between the public and the police stations.

When items are lost, the passengers should take note of the car serial number which comprises one letter and three digits. They should also keep in mind the hour the taxi was used and the fare paid. This will help trace the car and find the lost items.
