Dubai: A video with a striking aerial view of Dubai is quickly climbing the popularity charts on social media app Instagram.

Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, uploaded the video of the city through his Instagram account @faz3.

The 15-second video clip is captioned: “Good morning to all, this is #mydubai”. The short clip starts with a view of the Burj Khalifa and Shaikh Zayed Road framed by the window of a low-flying aircraft. The camera then pans across Jumeirah Islands and neighbouring properties.

Within six hours, the video received more than 53,000 likes and nearly 1,500 comments.

Some Instagram users tried to spot their homes in the video, while others praised the rapid development of the country under the visionary guidance of its leaders.

An Instagram user with the username @sophieestates, who is based in California, US, wrote in reply: “What brilliant and incredible infrastructure!”

Another user, Irena Petrovska (irena_petrovska on Instagram), based in Australia, missed out on visiting Jumeirah Islands during her trip to the UAE. She wrote: “Well, I guess now we’ve got a reason to go back.”

Shaikh Hamdan regularly posts photos and videos from the UAE and during his travels abroad through this popular media sharing app. To date, he has shared 696 pictures and videos, most of which offer an insight into his interest in photography, his personal life and travels abroad. He has more than 714,000 followers on Instagram.

He initiated the hashtag ‘#mydubai’ on January 5, 2014, to document pictures of the city.

Following the launch of the initative, a #MyDubai e-museum has been created through @MyDubai — the official Instagram and Twitter pages for the initiative.

So far, 383,343 pictures have been tagged using the hashtag on Instagram.

The hashtag #MyDubai is very popular across all social media channels and many photography enthusiasts use it to share pictures of weather updates, various activities, architecture, and their favourite hangouts in the city.
