Dubai: Dubai residents gave a small part of themselves to help those who need blood transfusion as part of a blood donor camp held on Thursday.

The event, held to bolster donated blood stocks in the emirate, was held at VFS Global’s Dubai Visa Application Centre, as part of the group’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.

The drive took place at the Dubai offices of the company in Wafi Centre.

Ali Al Janahi, Partner at VFS Global, told Gulf News yesterday that VSF offices around the world do their own social responsibility efforts.

“In some countries they help clean the city, but here I thought blood donation is very important and there is always a need for blood donations all over the world and so I decided we would have a blood donation drive. All the employees and most of the visitors donated,” Al Janahi said.

The donations will help support the Dubai Blood Donation Centre under the Dubai Health Authority where it will be provided to help children suffering with Thalassemia, trauma patients and other hospitals in the UAE depending on the need. The management and staff at VFS Global were honoured to be a part of this effort that encouraged individuals to give back to society to mark an important milestone.

Paul John Maliekkal, Regional CEO at VFS Global was on hand at the event to participate and extend support.

“It is indeed an honour for me and my team to support Dubai Blood Donation Centre through this initiative. It is our responsibility to contribute to society and this milestone seemed befitting of an event such as this,” he said.

The donor drive was held in conjunction with Latifa Hospital which provided equipment and staff for the blood drive.
