Dubai: XPRESS readers have identified a 60-year-old Bangladeshi man who has lost his memory and is desperately seeking help to find his bearings and his family.

On Thursday, XPRESS had reported that the man, Zaki Mohammad Ferdous, who is currently in Rashid Hospital, could not remember anything other than his name and his native place, Dhaka. "I don't know who I am," he had said, pleading for help to find his family.

A reader, S. Malek, who acted promptly, got in touch with XPRESS on Thursday, acknowledging that he knew Mohammad. "Today, just five minutes ago on the second page of XPRESS, I saw the news that a guy named Zaki Mohammad has lost his memory. Well, I would like to tell you that I know this guy. He used to come to our company often regarding business," he said, offering to provide more details.

When contacted, Malek put XPRESS on to two other friends who also acknowledged that they knew Mohammad and that he was in the trading business. At one point, he is said to have been working with a leading bank as well.

One contact said, "Zaki Mohammad was an educated man and used to come to our company. He had no family here and used to call me sister. Three months ago, he was sick. He had no visa and wanted to go to hospital. His friend took him to the doctor."

Abdul Rahman, another friend, said, "I met him last in the last week of October. He was highly diabetic and had taken ill earlier. He had recovered when I met him but I learnt later that he had fallen sick again."

He said Zaki Mohammad lived with a friend in Hor Al Anz. He provided contact numbers of his family in Bangladesh and of his brother in the US. When XPRESS contacted the brother and asked him if he was Zaki Mohammad's kin, he said, "Yes." However, he refused to speak, saying he didn't want to be disturbed.
