Dubai: The International Parachuting World Championship will kick off tomorrow as teams from 45 countries around the world will be dropping down on Mina Al Seyahi.

The Emirates Aviation Association has organised the Dubai International Parachuting Championship and Gulf Cup in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council.

The competition will run from January 8 to 17.

Over 400 competitors from five continents will attend the event, which will see participating teams competing in varying parachuting disciplines from landing accuracy and formation skydiving to canopy piloting.

"This will be the first time the canopy piloting competition is held outside Europe and America," says Yousuf Al Hammadi, Chairman of the Emirates Aviation Association. "This event alone has three categories, distance, speed and accuracy."

The official opening ceremony will include a parachuting air show, fireworks and many other entertainments events.

Al Hammadi says the event is the largest of its kind in the Middle East and promised a good show and world-class competition performances.
