Dubai: More than 8,000 buildings and establishments are currently managed electronically from Dubai Civil Defence's (DCD) central operations room.

The law makes it obligatory for all buildings and establishments in Dubai, except for private residences, to connect with the DCD 24x7 systems, which is a smart system that uses advanced technologies in managing safety systems.

Major General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Director of Dubai Civil Defence, said the system has contributed in achieving a decline in fires by 42 per cent in the first year of implementing it and by 18 per cent in 2009.

He said currently there are 8,360 establishments that are electronically connected to the central operations room.

He said there are another 9,570 buildings which have been inspected and prepared to be ready to connect to the system.

The mechanism of the system is based on receiving any alert from the connected buildings to protect lives and properties as fast as possible and reduce losses.

The alerts include, fire alerts, breakdown of elevators, daily alerts on water pipes, gas leak or low battery.
