Dubai: Gavin Moles has toured 15 countries in less than five months with only €800 (Dh4,100). His mode of transportation, a custom made Azub bike, is what made such a voyage possible.

The 43-year-old, UK born, cyclist began his journey in the south of France where he has been living for the past seven years. Cycling through the UK, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia, Croatia, Macedonia, Albania, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Iran, a 10 kilogram lighter Gavin, lastly took a ship over to Dubai.

He told Gulf News he sets up camp when he wants to sleep, he stops cycling when he's hungry, and he speaks to every friendly face he meets along the way.

Outdoor enthusiasts

Many Dubai residents have already stopped him in his tracks through the city, which he wishes had a few more bike paths.

The outdoor enthusiasts said he likes nothing more than sleeping under the stars, "I just put my inflatable mattress on a bit of grass if I find some trees or some shade it's perfect."

His first stop in the city was a dive straight into the Gulf's blue waters "It was excellent. Imagine three weeks being on the road in Iran through sandstorms and dust everywhere."

The next destination for the traveller is India, from there he hopes to cycle through Bangladesh, Burma, Thailand, China, and circle back towards Europe through Tibet or Mongolia. The only thing stopping Gavin from exploring the other continents of the world is his €3,700 budget.
