Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Justice plans to emiratise the judicial system by the end of 2012, according to a statement submitted to the Federal National Council (FNC) on Tuesday.
The statement said a panel was set up to study laws and time frames required for transferring prosecutors to judges in courts.
Justice Minister, Dr Hadef Bin Jua'an Al Daheri, told the council that emiratisation remains one of the pivotal components of the ministry's strategy and a priority objective.
"A strategy has been set ... aimed at opening opportunities for Emiratis from both sexes in the sector and allowing them to play an effective role in such a vital area for [the] community," he said.
Awaiting decree
He added that 17 Emirati prosecutors had been appointed and 25 more were waiting for a decree to recruit them.
"More Sharia judges will also be recruited to address the shortage of these judges in Sharia courts," he said.
Al Daheri said he was endeavouring to boost the status and pay of judges to attract more Emiratis into this profession.
The ministry's strategy also included high-quality training and motivation for staff.
