Abu Dhabi: The fear of failure is one of the things that holds us back from pursuing what we want. However, this was not the case with Jocelou Tubosa, who won Dh50,000 in a 60-day fitness challenge aimed at fat loss and muscle gain.

Tubosa, 32, wanted to lead a healthier and happier lifestyle and with focus and determination, she has successfully achieved her goals and was announced the fittest winner in a competition launched by a fitness club in Abu Dhabi.

Around 1,500 members from across the UAE signed up for Gold’s Gym “Fat to Fit” challenge, with only 30 contenders getting qualified during the selection round.

Tubosa, who works as sales manager in the capital, told Gulf News, “I managed to balance work, a healthy diet and continuous exercise. My exercises varied between cardio, weight lifting and group classes, which were very effective due to the support of professional trainers. I used to spend three hours at the gym per day.”

“I included more fruits, vegetables, grilled chicken and fish in my diet, and at the same time avoided eating junk food. My weight was initially 74kg and after 60 days I have lost 10kg,” she said.

A booklet, which carries basic information on workouts and everyday exercises, was given to participants. It has 60 slots and each should be stamped as proof of going to the gym.

“The Fat to Fit challenge will start again this year with even more enhancements for members to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle,” Ali Al Samahi, head of ventures at Al Ahli Holding Group, said.

Trainers were a source of inspiration, motivation and constant support to contenders.

“We have worked hard to inspire and encourage finalists. If I was a contender, a cash prize will absolutely motivate me. However, determination and commitment are major elements need to succeed in such a challenge,” Dexter Bartolome, fitness manager at Al Wahda Mall, said.
