Dubai: An Emirati writer plans to sign more than 1,951 books in one session to break the world record for the most number of books signed by one author.
Qais Sedki is to attempt the feat during the launch of his graphic novel, Gold Ring 2, on March 1 at The Dubai Mall.
"I don't think I'll be able to use my hand for a week after that," he said. Sedki, 35, will only get a five-minute break every hour.
Event rules say a steady line of fans must be maintained, and only one signed copy per person will be counted. Sedki has pledged to donate 15 per cent of all sales of his Dh50 tome during the event to the Dubai Cares charity group.
Each book signed will include an official stamp saying the copy was part of a world record attempt.
Gold Ring 2 is an Arabic comic book-style title about Sultan, a young Arab, who must face new competition in the art of falconry, a traditional Emirati sport.
The first Gold Ring, which will be available in English on March 2, saw Sultan and his falcon overcome odds to retrieve gold rings in a stadium contest.
Both books are illustrated in the Japanese manga art style.
"Manga has a huge global following, and it's very exciting to think that Gold Ring has earned a place in history as the first Arabic manga novel," Sedki said.
The Guinness World Record attempt will start at 10am on March 1 at the Kinokuniya Bookstore in The Dubai Mall.
